    Spring Tournament of Bloggers

    By Corvus | April 24, 2006

    Spring Tournament of Bloggers

It has arrived - the first annual Spring Tournament of Bloggers!

This season’s tournament is taking place within the arena’s of Metroid Prime Hunters. Anyone and everyone is invited to join in, providing you sign up no later than Wednesday the 26th.

Because I rarely, if ever, do things exactly the way others do, the Tournament has a four tier structure which is designed to allow everyone involved to play at least a few matches.

The idea here is that when the final scores are tallied, each played will be graded based on which Tier they are currently on and how many wins in that Tier they have. The player with the most wins in the Tier they currently inhabit will be declared the winner of that Tier.

It sounds much more complicated than it really is, I promise! Here are our opening Tier 4 matches:

Seth, of Game Chair (link) vs. Thomas, of Mile Zero (link)
Brinstar, of Acid for Blood (link) vs. Josh, of Cathode Tan (link)
Tony, of Button Mashing (link) vs. Corvus of Man Bytes Blog

Match scheduling will be left up to the participants of any given math and contestants are encourage to share their IM addresses with other Tournie Bloggers to facilitate scheduling. There’s also a forum set up on the PJ’s Attic message board which you can use to communicate with each other (link).

All matches will be played in Battle Mode with contestants’ choice of bounty hunters and arenas, but I suggest playing the smaller, two person, arenas such as Combat Hall, Processor Core, Sanctorus, or Compression Chamber.

Now for the good stuff - Prizes! All prizes are courtesy of PJ’s Attic and Brinstar.

Tier 1: STOB Champion T-Shirt, STOB Champion Coffee Mug, and first pick from Brinstar’s available GDC swag.
Tier 2: STOB Champion T-Shirt and second pick from Brinstar’s available GDC swag.
Tier 3: STOB Champion T-Shirt and third pick from Brinstar’s available GDC swag.

Samples of the STOB champion T-Shirts and regular STOB merchandise will be made available tomorrow AM.

Good luck to everyone and I look forward to hearing the results of the first matches!

This is a pretty cool idea! Too bad I don’t have MPH or a DS…

But if there is ever a Halo 2 Tournament of Bloggers, I’ll be all over that.

[...] In my first match in the Spring Tournament of Bloggers, I suffered defeat the hands of Josh from Cathode Tan. The arena was picked at random, but I forgot which one it was. I played as Kanden and Josh chose Sylux. We played in Battle Mode, which means you need to get more kills than your opponent. It was a fun match, with some stalking and running/hiding and also ownage (not by me). I lost 4-1. But I got one kill! Fab! [...]
