Man Bytes… DS
By Corvus | March 26, 2006

*meha* Yes, well… I couldn’t resist a little visual parody this morning, sorry.
As you can see, I’m the proud masticatory owner of a blue NDS. I briefly, very briefly, considered waiting until the DS Lite was released in the states, but I just couldn’t hold myself back. It’s quite possible I’ll buy one of those later in the year and let Ms. Knittiot have this one so she can actually get some time with it to play Nintendogs, which I purchased “for her”. Of course, I might just up and install Linux on it as well (link).
I bought the Animal Crossing bundle and thanks to my early morning schedule I’ve spent a bit of time waiting around for the shops to open and wondering why I’m not catching any fish. I’m considering starting a creepy stalking-through-letters obsession with Bree… so I’d better hook up with some people quick before I devolve into the madness of isolation. If you’re interested in meeting up:
Animal Crossing
3350 7525 0168
Name: Albatro
Town: Melville
I also picked up Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which is fun so far. I haven’t actually played a Castlevania game since… I can’t remember when.
There are too many games on the ‘to buy’ list and it seems a bit silly to spend time mentioning them all, but Electroplankton and Metroid are at the top of the list… as are Meteos, Tetris, Brain Game… well, the list goes on… I also want to grab the GBA Minish Cap and Rebelstar games.
Of course, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass has me weeping longingly into my pillow. I mean, the gameplay video (link) shows that you can take notes on the map. Notes! On the map! I’m eager to see how the Opera web browser performs on the DS as well.
Earlier this year, Josh mentioned that he’d like a keyboard for his DS (link). I’d like to see a small, maybe, 9″x4″ keyboard that plugged into the cartridge slot and contained an full featured office suite, with e-mail, web browser, etc. If it were running Linux and would synch with my main PC profile, so much the better.
As I was sitting in my living room yesterday morning, setting up the WiFi on the DS, I looked up at my Gamecube and realized that if the NDS and the Revolution will be able to chat with each other wirelessly… mmmm. Stylus in one hand, wand in the other… Which, now that I write that thought out sounds a bit perverse, but imagine the gameplay possibilities!
Now, if you will excuse me, I just found out that today is Yay Day in Animal Crossing and I have to go… Yay!

Hey, send me an IM sometime, and if I’m around we’ll set up an AC town meeting.

DS Lite for me! I simply cannot wait - starting to get really excited now I’ve played with one. I never buy the first version of a console if I can help it (especially with handhelds). I like to wait for the bumps and kinks to be ironed out, because I let myself by annoyed and frustrated by the smallest things when I’m trying to play, so the smoother the ride, the cheerier my disposition.
“Wow, you must have great self-control,” Dan Boutros said when I mentioned this to him. I pointed out that I have plenty of games to play - what I lack is the time to play them. In this context, waiting is no trouble at all.
Congratulations on your new platform adoption!

I think that the North American release of the DS will… well, maybe I’ll wait a couple of months before getting mine. But I want one. And I don’t play too much. But some of the games look so fun, and really creative. But that means I need to save. Ahh… desire overriding common sense. Must have DS!

Thomas: Will do!
Chris: I’ll most likely end up owning both and I won’t be bothered at all by trying all number of crazy Linux experiments with this one (should Ms. Knittiot not want it). I’d also like to point out that the slim-line PS2 with its heat and backwards compatability issues might be a good indicator that the 2nd gen hardware isn’t always better!
Duncan: You know you want one! We’ll trade fruit!

Someone put their mouth on a handheld! Get them a job at IGN!!
We should totally have a CoG Wild World meeting at some point…

I have a slimline PS2, and it is much better than the first generation PS2 in almost every way (I miss the slidey door - but it’s nice to be able to remove disks with the power off!). Don’t believe the backlash!

I’m not sure how much longer I can hold off buying a DS.

Great picture!
Um, what’s the blue thing? I infer that it’s a “DS” but that doesn’t tell me much I’m afraid.
